I may be mistaken, but can objects only be jpegs on the map? I think it would be nice if we could have animated GIFs

It could make for some really simple and interesting visual elements. Door is currently closed. It opens, you could have an animation showing it swing open. Stuff like that.

Yeah, that and transparent backgrounds. I think the problem is that the gif format is proprietary, so someone would have to pay for the right to use the code that supports it. There is also PNG but I think Vaughn said that would require a move to .net to support.

The GUI will not be enhanced until conversion. It already kicks every other GUIs ass. To use animated graphics formats in VB6, you have to use still images and write custom timers and show each frame yourself, which would bog down the gui.

I am working on a seperate app just for the map in .NET from scratch, so it will be a bit. Right now I am still in experiment stage to see if I can use .png, etc.

Vaughn

Now that we are .NET, can this be implemented relatively easy?

Well, the GUI is the one app that I can not convert to .NET. It needs to be rewritten from scratch in .NET. I have decided to attempt converting it to ASP.NET so it will be web based. The graphical part will be the last thing I try to get into ASP, and maybe it gets a Desktop client only depending how hard it is, but besides the graphics, that all should be available via ASP.NET.

Anyways, as much as I would like to, graphics have to take a back seat for a bit longer.
